This seems cool so far. I'm a Samsung lady so I have to wait for the chat to be available for Android 😄

I love this. I have stepped way back from social media, but haven't quit entirely. You may have convinced me though, with the thought of making creativity fun again. That's huge.

Totally worth it! Also, fun to find you on Substack! Just subscribed (and we also checked your Snappsy book out from the library last week) ☺️

Another big thumbs up for a terrific post. I’m old so social media is way down my list of priorities. I see oldies keeping in touch with family and friends, but we’re just not interested in what others think about us, so we simply use social media as a tool for very specific purposes.

I do art every day for fun and I share it with my sister every day and show friends whenever I catch up with them. I’ve shared a couple of commissioned pieces on Facebook and Tumblr in the past, but have no interest in any of the manufactured ‘connections’ that Facebook is based on, so I simply never use it these days.

I DO use Tumblr mainly to follow artists and authors, but I keep a very tight rein on who I follow and anyone who doesn’t give me joy gets quietly unfollowed. It means I browse for about 30 joyful minutes a day, and then I share my favourite posts with my sister at night. A pleasure.

And thanks for the Chat option - I’ve just written a novel on there too. If I get too ‘noisy’ at any stage, just let me know and I’ll make things shorter. I just like to Chat. As you can tell. 😃🥰

It sounds like you're doing social media the right way! Tumblr definitely seems like a more chill platform too without a lot of the issues other socials have. Sort of like Pinterest—it's not really social media, it's... an image collection service? I do still enjoy Pinterest. :)

And yay, thanks for chiming in to our first Chat! I'll always be happy to hear from you! <3

My Tumblr time has just doubled. It’s now 30 minutes in the morning and 30 in the evening. All due to Twitter shenanigans!! @staff at Tumblr are absolutely hilarious. When Tumblr got taken over, the platform needed to find ways to make money and they have come up with the most wonderfully inventive approaches.

Their latest is that you can buy packs of two blue checkmarks, no verification required, for a small fee. And if you end up buying 24, fun things happen! To do with crabs. Which have been a running joke on Tumblr for a couple of years now.

There’s just so much hilarity online at the moment. I just headed off to do a task in the next street whistling stuff that’s been crossing my dash. I know your post is about dropping social media but if you find stuff that truly brings you joy, AND if you manage your consumption time sensibly, social media can actually be a positive addition to your day. Just choose carefully and drop anything that doesn’t spark joy. (Thanks so much for being a place where I can quietly share my thoughts. It’s very much appreciated.)

You’re totally right, Ann! As long as you can manage it, it can definitely be beneficial. I think also that Tumblr is less of a trouble than some of the other ones :)
