Art Prompt #196: Parrots (+ Nintendober Celebration! 🄳)

Welcome to Week #196 of Might Could Draw Today (MCDT)! I’m here to invite you to draw with me today!

šŸ‘‹ If you’re new here: I started MCDT in 2016 and through its various iterations, it has spurred the creation of over 20,000 pieces of art by hundreds of artists from around the world! A new art prompt is delivered every Monday and you have the week to draw from that theme however you choose.

Here’s where we’re goin’ today:

  1. šŸŽ® Nintendober Recap

  2. āœļø This Week’s Theme

  3. šŸŽ„ MCDT Live: Family Edition!

Let’s go!

šŸŽ® Nintendober Recap!

We did it! Nintendober, and all other October drawing challenges end today, and whether you drew once a day, once a week, or even just once this month, let’s celebrate!

There were some ups and downs creatively, but I’m quite proud of how much I drew this month—it was a definite increase over the past few months. Which is the whole point of these October drawing challenges—to rekindle our creative spirits!

I managed to squeak past the finish line with all 31 Nintendo characters drawn by today! Here’s what I ended up with:

As you can see, two of the characters, Marth and Pit, are sketch outlines and not colored or finished. I just wasn’t into those two characters and didn’t feel like spending more time on them. I was more excited to move on to Wario and Diddy Kong, and I think it’s obvious I had more fun with those!

To me, this is why sketchbook drawing is so important to our creativity—I’m not drawing these things to sell or to please a client or even to show off to anyone. I’m just drawing them because I want to, and so if I don’t want to spend an hour on a character I don’t like… then I don’t!

Your sketchbook is where you are in control and everything is up to you. It’s all about drawing what you want, drawing how you want, and having fun!

We all need a space for that, don’t we?

Week #196:Ā Oct. 31–Nov. 6, 2022

Theme:Ā Parrots!

Feel free to give yourself a break after the intensity of a month-long drawing series. It can be a lot! If you need to not draw for a day or so to rest, that is totally ok. Think of it like athletic challenges—runners take breaks after big races, right? So why shouldn’t we?

However, it’s a fine line between taking a break and losing any creative momentum we gained during October. So take a day or so, but try to squeeze out at least one drawing this week to keep up the strength you’ve built in those creative muscles!

Our theme this week is parrots, so let’s have fun drawing bright colors and textured feathers!

šŸŽ„ MCDT Live: Family Edition!

We’ve got something new coming up tomorrow—our first-ever family edition of MCDT Live! Tune in on Zoom to draw with us and bring along any family members who might enjoy drawing with us too! Babies, kids, teenagers, cats, dogs, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas… whoever you want to invite along!

My mom and 3-year-old daughter, Butterbean will be attending and drawing with us, and I may even let Butterbean pick one of our drawing assignments. Who knows what that could be, ha!

Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, November 1 from 5–6pm EDT on Zoom to draw together with me and other artists from all over! All you need is a sketchbook and your favorite drawing tool!

As always, feel free to log into the Zoom event with your video and/or audio turned off if that’s what’s most comfortable for you. And you are certainly still welcome to come if you don’t want to or can’t bring any family members along with you!

RSVP + Get the Zoom link here!

If you’re not already a member of our private online community, Studiomates, you’ll be prompted to join before you RSVP—it’s free and way better than Instagram!

Thanks for drawing with me again this week and I hope to see you and a few babies, grannies, and kitties tomorrow on Zoom!

<3,
Christine
