Welcome to Week #192 of Might Could Draw Today (MCDT)! I’m here to invite you to draw with me today!
👋 If you’re new here: I started MCDT in 2016 and through its various iterations, it has spurred the creation of over 20,000 pieces of art by hundreds of artists from around the world! A new art prompt is delivered every Monday and you have the week to draw from that theme however you choose.
It’s Inktober Time!
Ok, y’all. This MCDT email will be a tad different because you know what time of year it is… Inktober!
Some of you have asked me what I/we/MCDT are doing for Inktober. And my answer has basically been to shrug and say, “I don’t know, what are you doing?”
Some of you said you’re going to follow the official Inktober prompts. Some of you said you were feeling anxious or hesitant to do Inktober this year because previous years had led to abandoned goals and feelings of failure.
Well, it’s now October 3. So where are you at? Did you start drawing on October 1? Have you already made 3 drawings? Or, are you like me, and you haven’t drawn anything?
To be honest, October creeped up on me this year. I didn’t realize Saturday was October 1 until Friday and by then it felt too late to come up with my own prompt list. But the official Inktober prompt list and others I found didn’t feel very inspiring to me either.
So, what to do?
The point of Inktober, as I’ve written about (here and here) and as Jake Parker describes on the Inktober website, is not simply to draw everyday. It’s deeper than that. The goal of Inktober is to be consistent in your drawing.
As Jake says, “Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.”
With that in mind, it simply does not matter that today is October 3 or October 5 or any day at all. It doesn’t matter if you’ve missed one day of Inktober, two days, three days, or whatever happened!
If we haven’t started yet, we can start today.
If we missed yesterday, we can forget that and try again today.
If we skipped 3 days… well really, who the heck cares?!
Nothing matters except today. We might could draw TODAY.
And so, here’s what I’ve come up with for myself and Might Could Draw Today to go along with the spirit of Inktober! I call it… Nintendober!
As you can see, there are 31 prompts, all revolving around the world of Nintendo characters! Specifically, these are many of the playable characters from the video game, Super Smash Bros.
Might Could Draw Today works in weeks, so I’ve split the 31 prompts up into four weeks. Above, you can see the first 9 prompts for days October 1–9. Next Monday, October 10, I’ll be back to reveal the next week of prompts, and so on until we get to day 31!
You can choose to start at Day 1 and catch up, drawing Mario, Donkey Kong and Link today. Or you can choose to just start on Day 3 with Link and blame me for being late. Whatever works to get ya drawing!
Ok, that’s it! Let’s start drawing Nintendo characters for Nintendober!
And if you’re looking for a place to share your whatever-tober art that’s not rife with comparison, influencers, and algorothims (*cough* Instagram *cough*), come share your work with us in our private artist community, Might Could Studiomates! That’s where I’ll be sharing mine, and I hope to get all 31 done by the end!
Can I do it? I don’t know!
Will I try?Yes!
So c’mon, let’s draw!
<3,
Christine
P.S. Thank you to everyone who voted in my poll last week! It was a resounding YES with 85% in favor of weekly prompts! I’m so glad! 💕
Such a great theme idea! I took part in 2019 Inktober and enjoyed it! Will absolutely enjoy this one! Can’t wait to get started and I’ll post my progress - I won’t use this as a reason/trigger to talk myself out of it like usual 😆🤪
