So true! I've been into calligraphy for more than 7 years, and I always stack and store my papers that I use for practicing. I write on every suitable paper I can, from matte glossy ones to packaging papers. Of course making an artwork is cool, but as an artist, I value my stack of papers so much. They show me how far I've come, and the importance of tiny steps can mean a lot in long term. They are the unseen big part of the iceberg.

So glad you can relate, Yasin! Sounds like we have similar processes. Also, I just looked over at your Substack and it is so cool! Just subscribed and excited to learn more about Islamic calligraphy—so inspiring and beautiful!

Love it, love it, love it. My friends keep on calling me An Artist. I just accept it now. As someone who has been doing daily art virtually every day since May 1 2020 (when the National Gallery of Australia released a month of prompts to keep the kids occupied through that first lockdown), I know that it’s all the little things, the joy of putting pen or brush to paper, the thought processes, the Joy, that make me an artist. The items I actually create are secondary.

Loving your words, your thoughts AND your art dear Christine. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes. 🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘
