Art Prompt #187: The Tudors
Inspiration + motivation to get us drawing!
Welcome to Might Could Draw Today (MCDT)! I’m here to dish out some sweet, sweet inspiration and gentle encouragement for us both to draw this week. This is what we’re serving up today:
1. This Week’s Theme
2. This Week’s Artwork Spotlight
3. This Month’s Virtual Drawing Event
4. This Month’s In-Person Drawing Event
Now let’s get to it!
1. This Week’s Theme
Hear ye, hear ye! Our theme for Week 187 (August 29-Sept 4) is... The Tudors!
You know, the House of Tudor, the English royal dynasty that survived for 5 sovereigns from about 1485–1603: King Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I.
Perhaps you'd recognize the dramatic story of King VIII (the King who had 6 wives, and two of them beheaded). There are countless retellings of this story to be found: The Tudors tv show, Anne Boleyn mini-series, The Other Boleyn Girl movie... they even made a musical that looks more like a pop show, called Six!
And don't forget about the story of Queen Elizabeth I!
Remember: You can choose to draw from these inspirations closely, copying to learn more about them or just drawing for the sake of drawing, OR you can choose to draw from these sources in your own personal style. If you need to brush up on the idea of copying like an artist, check out my class: Learn, Steal, and Play: Copying Art To Create Your Own.
There are no rules here y'all—go wherever your lil' brain takes you and draw that! Draw one thing, draw a bunch of things, whatever works for you this week. And then share what you made with us in our private artist community, Might Could Studiomates! We’d love to see it and support you in your drawing practice!

2. Artwork Spotlight
This is a new section I’m starting where I’ll share a piece of art drawn from one of you using last week’s MCDT theme! As I just decided to add this I didn’t have time to get permission to share another artist’s artwork for today’s email, so I’ll share my drawing with last week’s Texture theme this time! I drew this siphonophore above using the inverting technique I’ve been playing around with. I’ve been so inspired by the odd textures of jellyfish, from the slimy, shiny bells to the knobbly, wobbly tentacles.
Want your art featured in next week’s email?
Share your work with us in our community, Might Could Studiomates, and I’ll be selecting a piece and message you there to get your permission to share it here!
3. Virtual Drawing Event
Our next Zoom drawing event is Tuesday, September 27 from 8:00 pm–9:00 pm EDT.
RSVP to attend (and get the Zoom link) here!
What is this?
We host monthly casual drawing meet-up events for anyone who wants to dedicate some creative time on their calendar and socialize with other artists from around the world! We draw together from the week’s Might Could Draw Today prompt or you can choose your own idea. All you need is a sketchbook, a pen or marker, and an internet connection!
P.S. We rotate through different times, so if this time doesn’t work for your schedule or timezone—don’t worry! The next one will be different and we hope to accommodate everyone eventually!
4. In-Person Drawing Event
Our next in-person drawing event is Thursday, September 8, from 5:30 pm–7:00 pm EDT. This event will be hosted at a new location: the Clawson-Burnley Park picnic shelter at 355 Hunting Hills Ln, Boone, NC 28607.
For up-to-date times, locations, and changes, check out the Boone Drawing Club website!
Please email me to RSVP (either reply to this email or email christine@mightcouldstudios.com with “Boone Drawing Club” in the subject line) so we know to expect you! Hope to see you there!
Thanks for being here! I can't wait to see your Tudor-inspired art over in Studiomates and I hope to see you at one of our drawing events later in September! 💕
Now let’s draw!
<3,
Christine
