Welcome to Week #191 of Might Could Draw Today (MCDT)! I’m here to invite you to draw with me today!
👋 If you’re new here: I started MCDT in 2016 and through its various iterations, it has spurred the creation of over 20,000 pieces of art by hundreds of artists from around the world! A new art prompt is delivered every Monday and you have the week to draw from that theme however you choose.
Here’s where we’re goin’ today:

Here we go!
1️⃣ This Week’s Theme

Last weekend I did a lot. Perhaps too much. So last night and this morning I’ve been a tad bit grumpy. You may remember from my Grumpy Art: Drawing to Process Emotions Skillshare class that I like to draw armor and warriors and such when I’m feeling grumpy. I find it helps release all that tension and angsty energy inside. So I thought why don’t we all try it this week? Even if you aren’t feeling grumpy, it’ll still be fun to draw the character I’ve got lined up today:
Week #191: Sept. 26–Oct. 2, 2022
Theme: Princess Kushana
Princess Kushana is one of the main characters from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind which is both a film (1984) and, originally, a manga series (1982-1994) by Hayao Miyazaki.
The main character and protagonist is Nausicaä, but for this week, I’m more interested in the villain: Princess Kushana.

Princess Kushana is the daughter of King Vu and the commander of the Third Army, her extremely loyal group of soldiers. Like all good villain characters, she has plenty of darkness in her, but also has a fascinating backstory and is ultimately a severely wounded person.
When she was a child, she lost an arm to an Ohmu (humongous bug creatures) and now has one mechanical arm. She is largely driven by revenge against both the Ohmu and her father and brothers. Her armor is intricate and meticulously made and her poses and facial expressions ooze power, determination, and strength.
In short, she’s gonna be fun to draw. :)
🎶 P.S. If you want to double up on the amazing Nausicaa mood, take a listen to the film soundtrack while you draw… it’s captivating!
2️⃣ Artwork Spotlight
This week’s featured Artwork Spotlight is this set of drawings by Dawn Miller! Dawn knocked it out of the park last week, taking the Candy Land inspiration and running with it to make it her own! I love how she reenvisioned the characters in her own way and even gave them new hobbies! Maybe Lord Licorice feels a little less villainous after a round of golf. 😂
You can see more of Dawn’s work and lots of other inspiring MCDT drawings inside our private artist community, Studiomates!
Thank you for sharing your art each week with us, Dawn!

3️⃣ Live Drawing Events
Want some dedicated time on your calendar for extra accountability to draw and chat with other artists? Join us TOMORROW Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 8–9pm EDT on Zoom to draw together with me and other artists from all over! All you need is a sketchbook and your favorite drawing tool!
Shy to attend a Zoom event?
I get it—I’m an introvert too. Feel free to log into the Zoom event with your video and/or audio turned off if you just want to dip your toes in while you draw and listen if that’s what is most comfortable to you. We’re happy to have you either way—it’s all about carving out some time to draw anyways!
That’s it for today! Thanks for being here and I can't wait to see your Princess Kushana art over in Studiomates and maybe see you at tomorrow’s drawing event! 💕
Now c’mon, we might could draw today!

Christine
